Located on a 7.5-acre tract of land along the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington, the new world headquarters for a leading global contract research organization is a significant addition to the city. At 14 stories and 518,000 square feet, the project is one of the largest of its kind in the area. A large expanse of silver glass on the north elevation transitions to horizontal bands of glass and precast with integral sunshades on the south side, where the smaller scale and proportion of openings is more compatible with the context of existing downtown structures. The site is fronted by a landscaped walking plaza and visitor drop-off area, while a structured parking deck sits beneath and adjacent to the building.
The Interior Design concept was based on Scandinavian design concepts, which emphasize clean and simple forms. Etched glass with subtle curves, white fabric panels and bamboo wood veneer are all featured throughout the first floor common areas.
